Classrooms Without Borders: “Confronting the Complexity of Holocaust Scholarship: Reflections on the Past, Present, and Future of Holocaust Studies”

Classrooms Without Borders, in partnership with Liberation75, is excited to offer the opportunity to engage in our unique series: Confronting the Complexity of Holocaust Scholarship: Reflections on the Past, Present, and Future of Holocaust Studies. The rise of anti-Semitism across the globe alongside the current data that points to a serious void in understanding about the Holocaust in the 21st century shines a light on a critical need to continue the task of Holocaust Scholars to honor the memory of the Shoah.

In each of our 9 part series we will meet Top Scholars in the field and focus on their research and scholarship. The Fourth Session in this series will be held on January 12th, 2022 at 3pm, featuring Wendy Lower: Using Photographs as Evidence. The terrible mass shootings in Poland and the Ukraine are often neglected in studies of the Holocaust, because the perpetrators were meticulously careful to avoid leaving any evidence of their actions. Wendy Lower stumbled across one such piece of evidence – a photograph documenting the shooting of a mother and her children and the men who killed them – and has crafted a forensically brilliant and moving study that brings the larger horror of the into focus.
